Case of the Mondays: Farting at the Office

I'm 26 years old and still think farting is funny.  Probably my favorite thing about work because work is old people shit.  Let's be honest, we are all just pretending to be adults.  People won't say that because they are soooo mature and have wives and husbands and kids and mortgages and shit.  But I'll say it.  In my first edition of Case of the Mondays, I'll explore farting in the office.

According to Wikipedia, most people fart between 8-20 times a day on average.   That doesn't seem like that many times to me, I go way over that daily. Is that bad? I am finally above average at something at least. It's Monday, and I ate a lot of crap this weekend.  So, it's fair to say I was closer to a 100 butt sneezes today.

Everyone farts.  It's natural.  But at work, it's different.  You can't just drop bombs like you're at home in a pair of sweats.  Depending on where you work, you may be able to fart more freely than other workplaces. No matter what, farting is the common denominator.  When you work in an office, it's tricky. It's really an art form.

Your main goal when you work in any office is to keep a low profile, in every capacity.  Don't do too much, but don't do too little.  Don't try to seem too important, but don't make yourself seem expendable.  And don't kiss anyone's ass.  It shows weakness.  You can be a nice guy, just don't be too nice.  Maybe grow a mustache to assert your authority (you're on your own, women).

Anyways, the same goes for farting, you want to keep a low profile for obvious reasons.  You'll never shake a reputation as the guy who farts.  Not that I know anything about that. It also depends on the situation.  Do you want to be a fart ninja?  Do you want to fart directly into someone's face?  How lazy are you feeling that day?  Have you given up all self-respect? So many options.  But, holding it in is definitely not one of them.  That's unhealthy.

Safest place to cut the cheese is always going to be in the bathroom, if you can get there in time. Unless the bathroom is right next to your desk, you probably have a bit of a walk to get there.  So, it's not really practical to walk to the bathroom every single time you need to fire off a one-gun salute (or multiple).  This is where your creativity comes in.

Your safest option is crop-dusting.  Leave that trail of stench behind for someone else to deal with. If you do this correctly, no one will know who did it. I recommend doing it in a stairwell, the mailroom or even the kitchen if you desperately need to let out the death breath.  Or, walk through another department where no one really knows you and let that anal volcano breath.  By the time you're out of there, the damage has been done and you're already gone from the scene of the crime.  Just be careful not to walk directly in front of anyone and blow your cover.  See what I did there?

If you really want to be stealthy, have a go-to office (that's not your own).  This works for me because I don't have one of my own.  Act like you are making an important phone call so that you need to step into an office and close the door.  Do you know how many fake "important" phone calls I make everyday?  If anyone asks, you say it's your landlord or your mother.  No one questions that.

If you want to be a straight up asshole, just walk in to someone's office while they are in there and drop the bomb.  This is typically a less subtle option, but whose going to to call you out on that?  Whoever smelt it, dealt it!

The laziest option is to just rip ass at your desk with reckless abandon.  try spreading your cheeks as much as possible, lean to the side and  to just let it out with no sound.

Warning: be careful when wearing headphones at your desk.  A lot of times you get in the zone and completely block out all other noise.  This puts you deeper into your comfort zone aka your couch at home.  If you get too deep into that comfort zone banging away on your keyboard getting shit done, getting really into Billy Joel "Piano Man", you're bound to let one rip, not thinking twice. You've been warned.

Yes, I have sneeze-farted at work.  At least once a week. So much dust, I'm sneezing 10 times a day easy, it's only bound to happen.

I should have been a teacher so I could blame the students.

Never forget...

Anyone Remember Pro Beach Hockey?

Can we bring this league back? This was pretty much my dream growing up before I ever played ice hockey. Playing roller hockey on the beach?  Count me in.  If you're not familiar, here's a refresher.

Party like it's 1999!  No glass or fence on the boards.  That's some old school roller hockey.  Back when the best "rink" around to play was a parking lot with makeshift boards.  In Pro Beach Hockey, they used a ball, they had a ramp behind the net and a "Dome Zone".  If you scored from outside the Dome Zone, it counted as two points, functioning like a three point line in basketball.  I just never understood the V Form skates.

Fights are fun though.

Roller hockey got big in the 90's before ice hockey really took off in America.  4 on 4. No offsides, no icing.  Wide open.  It was a lot of fun, but died out when ice hockey rinks started popping up everywhere.

Remember the New Jersey Rockin Rollers?  Probably not.  I remember going to watch them play at the Meadowlands one time as a kid.  Yes, pro roller hockey was a thing.  It was that popular at the time.

Notice the sponsor by Taco Bell on this jersey?  I LOVE Taco Bell.  $169 for one of these one Ebay if you're wondering.

Now go enjoy this game from 1994. Pretty sure that's Julie the Cat in goal.

After two ugly losses and Cammalleri possibly out for the season, the Devils should be sellers at trade dealine

This picture of Larsson is good a representation of the Devils right now, hanging on for dear life. With two ugly losses to Columbus and Tampa, this team is trending in the wrong direction at the worst time losing 5 out of their last 6 games. And now John Hynes is saying Cammalleri has had a setback could be out for the rest of the season.  I've gone back and forth on this, but if the Devils were actually going to make some noise in the playoffs, they would already have a playoff spot.  The Devils are simply not playing like a playoff team.  That's because they aren't built like a playoff team. It's time to sell at the trade deadline on Monday, meaning trading Stempniak and Schlemko.

I know what you're thinking when I say to trade these guys.

"But, the Devils are still in the playoff race!"

"They are only 1 point out of the 8th seed!"

"Why would we trade our leading scorer?!"

Both have been pleasantly surprising this year for the Devils, no doubt. But, both also have expiring contracts and could walk at the end of this season.   If the Devils miss the playoffs and neither player re-signs, we'd lose each for nothing.  Lou Lamoriello was criticized for letting that happen in the past.  Current GM Ray Shero is sort of caught in the middle of the long-term plan of building a Cup contender and short-term plan of trying to make the playoffs this year.  It doesn't exactly send the most encouraging message to your team if you end up trading your leading scorer.

But, this is a business and you have to be realistic.  I hate to break it to you, but the Devils won't be winning the Stanley Cup this year.  And, it's going to be a lot harder making the playoffs without the prospect of Cammalleri returning this year.  You have to buy in to the long term plan, and selling high on Stempniak and Schlemko could bring back valuable assets for the future.  It has to be done at the right price, of course.  You hope teams might overpay with a high draft pick in return for renting out either one of these guys.  Both of them can certainly help any playoff-bound teams in the short-term.  Neither have a high salary cap hit, so they are enticing trade chips.

Stempniak is leading the team in points with 16 goals and 25 assists and is on pace to have his best year as a pro.  He's the perfect rental player for a contender.  He brings a veteran presence.  He's played on 8 different teams in 10 years.  He clearly understands all the little things and has really had to earn his way into the NHL.  And, he's done what it takes to stay in the NHL. Teams who need a scoring punch will be calling.  I can certainly see Washington wanting to add a guy like Stempniak.

Same deal with Schlemko on defense, who is also a having a career year with 17 points.  A journeyman at this point, I had no idea who he was when he signed with the Devils before this season.  He's certainly had a nice year though with a few game-winning goals.  With defensemen at a premium in the league right now, he would be a cheap, low-risk high-reward pick-up at the deadline.

The reason I haven't mentioned any other Devils that should be traded is because I don't think they have anyone else that any other teams will actually want.  There is still a lot of dead weight on offense on this team. Coming into the year, I didn't think they'd sniff the playoffs.  I'm happy that they have been in the race.  But, you have to be realistic and build for the future.  I am not saying to trade those two guys for a bag of pucks. Shero has to do it at the right price.

OK, if he wants to trade Jacob Josefson for a bag of pucks, I have no problem with that. Monday should be very interesting.

Ted Cruz is Kevin from The Office

Kevin from The Office has hair again?! And he's running for President?!

Oh wait, that's just Ted Cruz.

I flipped on the Republican Presidential debate since the Devils are getting their asses kicked and just realized that Ted Cruz is a doppelganger with Kevin Malone.  Honestly kind of a slap in the face to Kevin because this Cruz dude is creepy.

This is as much as I will ever talk about politics.

I love that Jason Pierre-Paul is suing ESPN and Adam Schefter

Love this. Good for JPP. I hate ESPN. But for only $15,000? That's like Dr. Evil only asking for a million dollars in the first Austin Powers movie.  $15k is peanuts to ESPN.  You would think they'd just cut a check and call it a day.  Should have sued for $100 million or something. I'm not sure if Adam Schefter and ESPN did anything illegal.  JPP has already settled with the hospital that released his medical records and the HIPAA laws don't apply to media as far as I know.  I watched Making a Murderer, so I'm basically a lawyer.  That isn't the point of this blog though.

The point is that ESPN sucks.  Do I still flip on Sportscenter just about every night?  Sure.  But, it's getting to be unbearable to watch.  Can they just change their name to TMZ Sports already? It's not about actual sports anymore. For ESPN, it's all about what's happening off the field. All about the storylines and "what's trending. "What nonsensical motivational quotes is Lebron James posting on Instagram today? Are the Mets OK with Yoenis Cespedes wearing his hat backwards for batting practice? What stupid clothes is Russell Westbrook wearing to the game? Where is Johnny Manziel partying today? Is Brett Favre making another comeback?!"

It's nauseating.  The "Worldwide Leader in Sports" barely covers hockey.  They have one hockey analyst. And it's basically a huge joke the whole time Barry Melrose actually is on, usually at 1 AM. Think about how many football, baseball and basketball analysts there are.  Seems like hundreds.  That chick they have on there to talk about fantasy?  The only reason she is on there is because she's hot.  ESPN tries so hard to be cool and hip.  It's just a bunch of corny anchors who try too hard. The only people I can stand on ESPN are Scott Van Pelt, John Buccigross and Steve Levy.  Besides that, they are all toolbags.

Anyways, I hope they lose the case against JPP just on principle.  That, and Adam Schefter is a midget.

Sorry JPP, but I still laugh at this...

Ilya Kovalchuk is still a piece of shit

Fuck this guy. When Kovalchuk left in 2012, I wanted to punch him in his stupid Russian face.  It's now 2016, and I still want to punch him in his stupid Russian face.  Yes, I am still salty.

I just read this.  Apparently Kovalchuk is threatening his KHL team with a return to the NHL.

He's had a down year for his team, Lokomotiv. As of this week, he was stripped of his captaincy and benched for game 2 of his team's playoff series, then scratched for games 3 and 4.  Now he is threatening to leave if he isn't put back on the roster. Hmm, an abrupt departure from a team?  Terminating his contract? We've heard this one before!  Once an asshole, always an asshole.

All 30 NHL teams would have to approve him returning to the league if he tried to come back.  So, I don't see it happening.  You think the Devils and Lou up in Toronto would approve that?  Hell no.  He screwed both of them.  The only loophole to get around that would be to sign with the Devils.  Good luck with that one.

In the crazy event that somehow he does weasel his way back in the league, I say the Devils bring Daneyko out of retirement for a game just to murder him on the ice.

Devils Stomp the Rags, Kalinin gets the Gordie Howe hat trick

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

I said it was a must win, and the Devils got the job done, snapping their 3 game losing streak and getting right back in the playoff race.  Great hockey game too. A lot of end to end action, which would typically favor the Rangers.  It actually sucks that it's the last game these two teams will play against one another because it really felt like a playoff atmosphere.  After getting swept by the Rags last year, the Devils were able to win 3 out of 4 in the series this year.

The Rangers came out flying and rang one off the post in the first 5 minutes.  The Devils got on the board with a sneaky deflection by Kennedy.  I've hated on the guy all year, but if he keeps contributing like that, I have no complaints.  After his goal, the game really opened up.  After a Palmieri breakaway and save by Lundqvist, the Rangers got two quick one's back within 30 seconds.  Neither were Schneider's fault in my opinion.

I don't know what John Hynes said to the team after the 1st period, but they came out in the 2nd period with a fire lit under their asses.  They controlled the game from there, out shooting the Rangers 17-5 in the period.  It was nice to see them putting some passes tape to tape and controlling possession of the puck. The powerplay got back on track with a nice goal from Palmieri.

Then Cory Schneider made the save of the night.  This was Marty Brodeur-esque:

A lot happened in the second period.  But first, let's flash back to one week ago against the Flyers when Joe Blandisi took a bad dive:

Flash forward to last night:

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME BRO?  Lesson learned?  That's two dives and two embellishment penalties in one week. Stop flopping and bringing attention to the Devils for the wrong reasons.  The only reason he is going to stay in the lineup is because he is producing.  He had the two primary assists, both beautiful passes, on the Palmieri and Stempniak goals.  But, he did show his youth again when he got caught out of position on the Kevin Hayes goal.  Just stop diving dude.  Expect every team to chirp him about it going forward too.  He's dangerous offensively, but not exactly building the best reputation around the league.

Anyways, Sergey Kalinin and JT Miller dropped the gloves at the end of the second period after the Devils went up 3-2 on the Stempniak goal.  I was surprised because you don't typically see Russian guys drop the gloves.  It's not how the international game is played.  But, I was more surprised when Miller got tossed from the game for the tape on his hand, which apparently is an "intent to injure" penalty and automatic ejection. It was bizarre to me because I never even knew that was a rule.  Whatever, if their hottest scorer wants to drop the gloves and get thrown out, I'm all for it.

After not scoring on 7 minutes of powerplay time to start off the 3rd period, someone on the Devils FINALLY scored on a breakaway.  That's a Gordie Howe hat trick for Kalinin!  For the non-hockey fans, that's a goal, an assist, and a fight.  And he exploded for the goal:

Isn't it great when we beat the Rangers?  So great that I'll throw in another Will Ferrell Wedding Crashers gif...

The Devils HAVE to beat Columbus tomorrow night. Columbus sucks. And I hate John Tortorella.  I still have no idea what Ray Shero is or isn't going to do at the trade deadline on Monday, but I'll have my prediction for that on Saturday.  Toodles.
